Lima - Huaca Pullana

On our first day we walked to the pyramid mound situated about 2Km from our hotel. It is a called Huaca Pullana, and is in the suburb of San Isidro in Lima.
This is a large pyramid built from hand made (no moulds) mud bricks. It original purpose was for worshiping the gods not a burial mounds or pyramid - it has no tombs within its structure like those in Egypt.

The native peoples who built this amazing structure packed the bricks in such a pattern that much of the structure withstood earthquakes from the 8th century. The upper part of the structure was for worship by the religious leaders. Subsequent conquerors change its purpose to a burial place.

Unfortunately thieves have over time taken many artifacts so piecing together the history is next to impossible. Since the 1980s the archeological teams have painstakingly restored much of the structure using more modern techniques however it's apparently didn't withstand earthquakes as well as the older surviving parts.
A quality restaurant is located in the compound with views of the site.
